Welcome to Elkhorn Creek Ranch, the home of Best Angus and Quarter Horses.

The ranch is a family owned and managed operation nestled in the badlands of western North Dakota, 15 miles south east of the community of Watford City, North Dakota http://www.4eyes.net/ .

The ranch home to approximately 250 head of registered and commercial Angus cows and a handful of 'cow' bred, ranch raised quarter horses.  The native range and rugged terrain provide for an environment that sorts out the performance oriented, problem free (including disposition), and profitable livestock with "stay ability" from those better suited for higher input, more intensely managed operations.

The daily management of the ranch is currently in the hands of two generations of Hovet's, the first being Kurt and Rita Hovet (who have owned and managed the ranch since 1968), and the second being Pete and Vawnita (Hovet) Best, who returned the spring of 2007, after being away from the area for ten years.  Also involved with the operation are Lee and Kim (Hovet) Murphy.

Pictured below is Two Bucks A Jack (our 2000 chestnut son of Two Eyed Red Buck) (far right) and offspring of his all raised and developed at the ranch.  The desire to have an economical source of consistently bred, good dispositioned, dependable ranch horses brought us to the point of raising our own in 1998.

Pictured Left to Right are:

Our livestock are marketed in a variety of ways and we take pride in having a vested interest in selling you livestock that will compliment your program. We think the best way to do this is to have you come out to the ranch where you can see the livestock in their environment.  While viewing them with you, we can then find out what you like and do not like and assist you in selecting the bulls, cows, heifers, or horses that can move your program in the direction you want it to move.

However, we also understand that time and distance become factors in genetic decisions and therefore we offer a sight unseen guarantee on the cattle and the horses regardless of the method (consignment sale, production sale or private treaty) purchased from us.  We prefer to market private treaty, but the guarantee extends to all livestock purchased from us.

We are very glad that you were able to visit our website and we hope that you can make it to the ranch sometime.  We love to analyze and talk cows, horses and the ins and outs of production agriculture and we hope to do it with you sometime.
